Dear Parents and Guardians,
The Reading course has been designed with the sole purpose of helping students make gains in reading, meet the demands of academic subjects, and help students be successful not only on high stakes tests but also prepare them for future careers and/or college. The courses comprises of two rotating daily stations: SuccessMaker computer program and small group instruction with the teacher.
SuccessMaker is a very important and valuable part of your child’s academic day. It is computer-based learning, an interactive and individualized program which helps students improve reading. After the first few weeks of school the computer system is able to establish the “individual ability level” for each student. Students then continue in the courses throughout the school year and demonstrate gains in higher order thinking skills. Each day we receive reports on daily sessions and cumulative reports on each of our students’ progress which gives us important information and allows us to tailor instruction to each child's needs. Research shows the more time students work in the courseware the greater the academic growth. Over the course of the school year students will have approximately 25-30 hours of SuccessMaker instruction and our goal is for students to have one and a half year's growth in reading. Please encourage your child to do their best every day in SuccessMaker. Ask them what their scores were today!
The second rotation is teacher-led, targeted instruction with small group. It is based on data and follows district curriculum maps.
